Before Installing
• Is Vvidget free?
You can download it at: Download and use many of its features with no purchase. The "Pro" features, which include database connectivity, eliminate the community splash and adds a few more features are provided for a small fee, see: Buy Pro.
• Is Vvidget license key protected?
The point-and-click Vvidget applications require users to self-register to signify that you accept the End User License Agreement of the VVI application.
• What is installed with Vvidget?
The Vvidget Builder standalone application is self contained and is installed by simply unzipping an application. The Vvidget User installer places shared resources (frameworks, documentation and applications) into the /Library and /Applications folders on your computer. You must have administrator privilege for that purpose. It also places two startup items which are run when your computer reboots. Vvidget User is required for Vvidget Code programming, but not for redistribution.
• Does Vvidget communicate over the Internet?
The Vvidget applications includes software update technology to inform you of newer versions. You can request not to be informed about newer versions, but keeping these facilities on is highly recommended in order to get the latest features and bug fixes.
• Do you have a CD distribution of Vvidget?
If you have security or integrity concerns then contact sales@vvi.com for a support contract. With a support contract, you can receive a copy on compact disc as well as other alternatives.
After Installing
• Why does Vvidget Builder show a lower version number in its About panel than the version I downloaded?
Vvidget is comprised of many components at different revision levels. To view the overall and most relevant version number click Vvidget Builder's "Help > Check For Update ..." menu item. In addition to displaying the version number of your copy of Vvidget, the check for update will also let you know if a more recent version is available and what that version number is.
• How do I uninstall Vvidget?
If you installed the Vvidget Builder standalone application then simply drag it to the trash. If you installed Vvidget User then launch the application at "/Applications/Vvidget/VVidget Admin" and click the Uninstall tab to learn how to uninstall.
• After installing Vvidget User there are Peer_Visual_Server processes running in the Activity Monitor. What are those?
The Peer_Visual_Server processes are graphing server processes that run continuously and provide results for documentation, wizards and custom applications running on your computer. To stop those servers from running continuously launch the application at "/Applications/VVidget Admin" and click the Configure tab to learn how to turn off the servers until you specifically need them.
General
• How old is Vvidget?
Vvidget uses the latest and most robust technology. That said, it was first conceived in 1989, 21 years ago! And was given birth on a NeXT cube with NeXTSTEP version 0.9 beta. VVI has always supported Vvidget. It was the first graphing solution for Mac OS X and the first Universal Binary graphing solution. VVI published a Mac Intel position white paper, which was remarkably accurate in its description of our port to a computer that did not yet exist. Similarly so with every transition VVI has participated in. In a nutshell, Vvidget is old yet some of the technology and methodology that goes into producing Vvidget is so modern that they have not been invented (outside of VVI) yet!
• What are you planning for the Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6) version?
Vvidget is a Universal 64 bit system which is programmed consistent with Snow Leopard public information.
• I don't like some aspects of the Vvidget Builder user interface. How can I get it changed?
Make a post to the Community Forums. We factor many perspectives into Vvidget Builder and what some people like others do not, but we are working to improve it as well as many other aspects of Vvidget.
Developing, Programming And Automating Graphs Within Your Own Applications:
• Can I use Vvidget to program graphs (i.e.: automate the import of data onto a graph using a program I write)?
