• Is Vvidget free?

Tens of thousands of Mac users have downloaded Vvidget and are using it for free. The point-and-click layout application and some other applications are free. If you want to program graphs then you must purchase the add-on for that (see Vvidget Code).

• Is Vvidget license key protected?

The point-and-click Vvidget applications require users to enter a registration key (presented when you first launch an application) to signify that you accept the End User License Agreement of the VVI application.

• What is installed with Vvidget?

The Vvidget installer places shared resources (frameworks, documentation and applications) into the /Library and /Applications folders on your computer. You must have administrator privilege for that purpose. It also places two startup items which are run when your computer reboots. One of those starts graphing servers that are required for the wizards and figures in the documentation that come with Vvidget and the other startup item completes the installation process and is only run once after installation.

• Does Vvidget communicate over the Internet?

Vvidget includes software update technology to inform you of newer versions. You can request not to be informed about newer versions, but keeping these facilities on is highly recommended in order to get the latest features and bug fixes.

• Do you have a CD distribution of Vvidget?

If you have security or integrity concerns then contact sales@vvi.com for a support contract. With a support contract, you can receive a copy on compact disc as well as other alternatives.

• Why does Vvidget Builder show a lower version number in its About panel than the version I downloaded?

Vvidget is comprised of many components at different revision levels. To view the overall and most relevant version number click Vvidget Builder's "Help > Check For Update ..." menu item. In addition to displaying the version number of your copy of Vvidget, the check for update will also let you know if a more recent version is available and what that version number is.

• How do I uninstall Vvidget?

Launch the application at "/Applications/VVidget Admin" and click the Uninstall tab to learn how to uninstall.

• After installing Vvidget there are Peer_Visual_Server processes running in the Activity Monitor. What are those?

The Peer_Visual_Server processes are graphing server processes that run continuously and provide results for documentation, wizards and custom applications running on your computer. To stop those servers from running continuously launch the application at "/Applications/VVidget Admin" and click the Configure tab to learn how to turn off the servers until you specifically need them.

• How old is Vvidget?

Vvidget uses the latest and most robust technology. That said, it was first conceived in 1989, 17 years ago! And was given birth on a NeXT cube with NeXTSTEP version 0.9 beta. VVI has always supported Vvidget. It was the first graphing solution for Mac OS X and the first Universal Binary graphing solution. VVI published a Mac Intel position white paper, which was remarkably accurate in its description of our port to a computer that did not yet exist. Similarly so with every transition VVI has participated in. In a nutshell, Vvidget is old yet some of the technology and methodology that goes into producing Vvidget is so modern that they have not been invented (outside of VVI) yet!

• What are you planning for the Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) version?

We have our own ideas, but it would be best if you Download Vvidget, use it and then let us know what your answer is.

• I don't like some aspects of the Vvidget Builder user interface. How can I get it changed?

Email feedback@vvi.com with your suggestions. We factor many perspectives into Vvidget Builder and what some people like others do not, but we are working to improve it as well as many other aspects of Vvidget.

• Can I use Vvidget to program graphs (i.e.: automate the import of data onto a graph using a program I write)?
